Miss O Donovan

Miss O Donovan

An educational vision backed by determination, by openness to new possibilities, and by the courage to take risks led to the founding of Scoil Mhuire, over sixty years ago. Today the school still lives by this philosophy.

In studies, Scoil Mhuire aims at the highest academic standards, while always valuing and promoting the varying gifts of individual pupils. We want to make learning a stimulating process at every stage, opening new vistas of discovery, offering new skills, and helping pupils to form disciplined habits of work.

We encourage girls to think intelligently for themselves, to appreciate what is worthwhile in literature and the arts, to know of the daily developing wonders of mathematics and the sciences, to have a sense of the past, and to be aware of the environment, physical and social, in which we live today. We also encourage them to take an interest in and to show an action concern for, those in troubled circumstances, at home or abroad. Apart from work, there are many stimulating out-of-school activities, a great interest being debating – at all levels up to the European Parliament!

Most importantly as a Catholic School we try to live by our convictions. An intelligent understanding of the faith, and putting it into practice both as individuals and as part of the school community, makes us grateful for what we have been given and considerate towards others; and this is at the foundation of that atmosphere of friendship which has been a characteristic of the school from its very beginning.
